Trip to Wookey Hole

Year 4's Rock 'n' Roll theme came alive as we toured the caves of Wookey Hole today.

Braving the dark, dripping tunnels we entered the caves, ever fearful of the legend of the Wookey Hole witch...
We saw incredible formations of the stalactites and stalagmites we have been learning about.. as well as the profile of the very same witch cast forever in stone by a brave monk.

It got darker... and scarier...

And stinkier! As we looked at the massive Cheddar cheeses, famously stored in the cave vaults:

 Cave paintings! Were they real???

Back outside in the glorious sunshine

We found opportunities to answer some of the questions we had asked ourselves before the trip..

We watched a film about the intrepid divers of the caves and the incredible depths they have explored underneath the water table.. no-one knows how deep and how big these caves get underwater!

At the paper mill, we got a chance to make our own paper...

Embossed with our own handprints!

We managed not to get lost in the crazy hall of mirrors before going home!
